PAROMITA ROY DANCE

Saturday 10th August 2019 5:30 PM

Paromita Roy, She is an Engineer by profession working as a Consultant in Toronto, is an aficionado of Indian classical and contemporary dance. While Roy was instructed in classical dance at a very young age and continued her training under different “Gurus” in various styles, her core training was in the ancient tradition of Bharatanatyam, under the guidance of Guru Sreemati Anita Mallick. Roy is also trained in other Indian classical dance forms such as Manipuri, Kathakali and Odissi. She was introduced to contemporary and Indian folk dance by Uday Shankar dance academy and later by Guru Shambhu Bhattacharya. Since then, she has performed in numerous festivals in India, Canada, and the UAE. As a professional choreographer, Paromita has collaborated with many dancers in diverse classical dance styles for large productions, both in eastern and western traditions.

For TD Mosaic 2019, Paromita Roy will present a beautifully choreographed medley version of folk and semi classical dances of South Asia with her entourage of 30 dancers. These colourfully dressed up dancers will demonstrate the diversity and reach of the tradition of dance form in South Asia. We are grateful to Metal Works for the support they provided in this presentation.
